Three International Favorites
To get things rolling, here are three of the best foundries offering free fonts on the web:
Cape-Arcona
While these Germans don’t crank out a staggering number of free fonts, the ones they do offer are some of the best you’ll find. You might as well grab the entire collection, a few fonts have vanished from the free page. CA Ginger Mint is one of my all time favorites.
Maniackers Design
In the high-energy (and often completely insane) Japanese font universe, Maniackers has been a constant presence. It’s worth a visit just to wade through the enormous selection. Check out Pico, Childish and Digits.
Misprinted Type
This Brazilian site offers a ton of great free grunge (or “worn” or “distressed” or whatever you’re supposed to call them) fonts. I like: Dirty Ego, Downcome and Shortcut.

Wow, I just filled my desktop with Maniackers downloads. I don’t need any more fonts, really, but the previews are so shiny and candylike.

Misprinted Type also has some great Photoshop brushes to get that distressed look. Check out the goodies page.

I just found out about the fontleeching two days ago, but I seem to recall your name from the good old Swankarmy days. Maybe I’m wrong though. Anyhow… It’s wonderful to see someone with an appreciation for GingerMint. I’m also partial to KissKissBangBang, which features some of the most insane kernings ever.
