Kontrapunkt Light

kontrapunkt.dk Alert reader Morten Wulff points us towards another free Danish font (after yesterday’s Union): Kontrapunkt Light won the Danish Design Prize in 2004 and is available for free from, well, Kontrapunkt. I’m not sure why the Danes are just handing out all these great fonts. Maybe someone should teach them about good old-fashioned American capitalism! Oh, wait. Don’t do that.

I like this quote:

We would like to give away the typeface, which is very dear to us. It is a bit of an experiment. Can a typeface spread like a virus?

Yes, it is possible in a few cases. Comic Sans doesn’t really apply because it’s already part of everybody’s system, but how about the deadly Black Chancery? Used by fantasy role-playing clubs worldwide!

The web would probably be a much better place if it became infested with Kontrapunkt Light.

The PC download’s files are not in TrueType format, but PFM files, whatever on earth those are.

I can’t get this font to work in any of my apps, I’ve neither seen nor heard of PFM files.

irkregent & Paul:

These are PostScript fonts, which are installed just like .ttf fonts if you’re running Windows XP. If not, you’ll need to download Adobe’s free Type Manager utility.

I suggest reading FontShop’s excellent guide to font installation.

I installed them exactly as I do ttf fonts, yet still nothing.

Tim / February 24, 2005 @ 9:49 am

Paul, try installing them within Type Manager. Free download but you have to register.
