STC fontBrowser
I really wish that I would remember to use STC fontBrowser. Instead of using the handy web app to see what a given text sample looks like in any of the fonts I have installed on my system, I always use Photoshop to awkwardly run through all my fonts. Instead of dealing with easily overrun text boxes and inverted colors, I should just plug my text (”My Totally Awesome Homepage!“) into fontBrowser and let it do the work. But I always forget.

Possibly the most useful thing on the net. Especially since Photoshop won’t let me just scroll through fonts with the up/down keys.

Don’t just leave it there on the web put it on your desktop. Go to:
http://www.stcassociates.com/lab/fontBrowser-2-001.swf
Then just “Save as…”
Bingo. I have a cool flash browser for my fonts whenever I need it.

Brian’s tip makes this app about 10 times cooler.

This is an excellent utility. Much faster and more efficient than FontBook.
But what I’m really looking for is a program that will allow me to print out a book of the fonts on my system. Something to use as a reference book outside the confines of my Mac.
Any suggestions out there?

James, what version/OS are you using? Because I can scroll through fonts in Photoshop using the up/down arrow keys :S
I’m using Photoshop CS on Win XP.

Er… Am i lost in time and space? Dont you kids ever heard about “The Font Thing” by Sue Fisher (avaiable at http://members.ozemail.com.au/~scef/ )
Been using it since 1999, and never had need for another Font previewing/managing app… ever.

The font previewing/management tool I have been using for years now is Bitstream Font Navigator, which comes with the Corel application suite. You can view all your installed AND uninstalled fonts, and group them in categories. Here is a useful blog entry I have just found on how it works, and how you can get hold of it:

Another useful application for viewing several fonts at a time is ACDSee, which can show the fonts as thumbnail pictures (font color, background and displayed text can be changed in the plugin settings). This also shows uninstalled fonts as well.

“The Font Thing”, wich i already mentoned, let you see intalled, uninstalled fonts, categorize them, create collections suited to your taste, install, uninstall, load, unload.
ACDSee is nice, but i only usit for pics, for fonts sometimes it crashes.
