Well I, for one, couldn't get it to install -- something about "font is missing or damaged". Internationalization issues, somehow?

I'm with telly, though. The basic problem with a font like this is that you can't use the same character twice, at least not close together. When you do it's like breaking the fourth wall.

Uptown was a great font!!! ; I still use it all the time.... too bad there weren't more lightly-grungy-esque fonts like that around.

That font would be good for one of those anti-scripting things (where a picture of letters and numbers is generated)...

telly: i share your complaint about grunge fonts, which is one of the main reasons i find cagna appealing. if you actually looked at the font you would see that the letters are actually devoid of the kind of defects you refer to. the "random pen strokes through the characters" really applies only to the numerals. the letters themselves are actually pretty clean.

and i'm pretty sure those aren't pen strokes. i think they're shadows (tilt your head).

I generally dislike the "grunge" fonts, because typing any character twice generally ruins the effect.

The random erasure or weight differences can work well for a typewriter font, to emulate the wear of the metal ("the E doesn't work"), less so when it imitates a letterpress; this kind, with the random pen strokes through the characters, I just don't understand at all.

I don't know what your policy is regarding limited free use, but it bears pointing out that this font is only free for non-commercial use; it's 23 Euros for commercial usage, which I assume my roomate's friend's band's website would be considered. If they ever get a gig, anyway...
