What is the best free font you’ve ever found (and you’d better include links!)?

I know it’s just an old grung font but
I find I use it a lot .

You linked to Misprinted Type a few weeks ago, but I’ve been loving his stuff for a while now. My favorites are probably Print Error, Selfish, and Shortcut. Really nice worn/grunge fonts.

I love all the fonts from Rotodesign, but my favorite is Potrzebie, not just because it’s named after a Mad Magazine word.

Already told you about Gentium, old chap. . . .

Sylfaen will always be my first and true love! ;o)

I’m not much of a font finder, indeed I am an outsider to your world of design, but I there are a few cool ones over at 9031. I like Arcade for some reason!

Kroeger 05 56 is a wonderful little pixel font. Use it at 8pt or 8px. Line-height is an issue, though, so tweak that manually. I think this font is for sale on miniml.com but I still managed to find it for free via Google. Note my first link. Again, I have no idea if this really “free” though.

I have a weakness for the old Apostrophic Lab stuff (saved on Typoasis: http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/lab/index.htm )

My favorite of these is Freebooter Script

I’ve never had opportunity to use it for a pay project, but I *love* codex:

one of the great quality free monthly fonts at http://freefont.de/us/index.htm

I’ve used it a billion times, but I still love it bunches: David Rakowski’s original Davy’s Dingbats: http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/rakowski/dr2/davy_f2.htm. Not strictly free (it’s shareware, I think, or at least it was once), kinda rough, and back in the day it made LaserWriters cry (especially those ganked “budget” LaserWriters Apple was unleashing on a helpless world in the mid-90s), but I like it for all of those reasons, and more. My favorite dingbat font.

There are a few real quality fonts by Tom Murphy (Divide by Zero) at
http://fonts.tom7.com

But by far his best work can be downloaded here
http://fonts.tom7.com/f/tomnr.ttf

Tom’s New Roman can be used as a legit serif font, but it looks super hip in print.

I was also a fan of the Lab, especially Day Roman:

And Scriptina:

They shut down in 2004 but there’s a complete archive here:

Thanx for that remark, but that font of mine I particularily hate, for some unknown reason.
