Frequently Asked Questions

Is this German keyboard free?
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no downloads, no limits.
How do I type umlauts?
Click the large ä, ö, or ü buttons in the special characters bar above the text area. For uppercase, activate Shift first.
What is Eszett (ß)?
ß (also called scharfes S or sharp S) is a unique German letter that represents a double-s sound. It appears in words like Straße (street), groß (big), weiß (white).
Why QWERTY instead of QWERTZ?
QWERTY is the most common layout worldwide. Since umlauts and ß have dedicated one-click buttons, you don't need the QWERTZ layout to type German.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. All buttons are fully responsive and work on touch devices.
